Dr. Joan Anderson

Dr. Joan Anderson is the skilled and dedicated owner and dentist of Rocktown Family Dental Care. As the sole owner and dentist of the practice, Dr. Anderson is responsible for all treatment planning for patients, supervising staff members, and providing patient care. She prides herself on being a good employer, creating a dental home that people want to be a part of, and mentoring her employees to succeed even if their career plans take them elsewhere.

Having graduated from dental school in 2008, Dr. Anderson practiced in Georgia and South Carolina for three years before moving to Virginia to work at the Harrisonburg Community Health Center. In 2012, she started her practice, Rocktown Family Dental Care, which officially opened its doors in May 2013.

Dr. Anderson loves when patients refer friends and family to her practice, as it shows she has earned their trust. She enjoys chatting with patients, learning about their lives outside of the office, and creating a fun environment for her team.

Educational and Professional Background

Dr. Anderson graduated magna cum laude from Allegheny College with a double major in biology and psychology. She earned her Doctor of Dental Surgery (DDS) degree from the University of Michigan School of Dentistry, where she received multiple accolades, including the Ida Gray Award for Outstanding Efforts in Promoting Multicultural Ideals and the American Society for Dental Ethics Award for the Class of 2008. She also published an article in the Journal of Dental Education in 2009: Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgender (LGBT) Issues in Dental School Environments.

Dr. Anderson has completed Dawson Academy Training, received The Concept of Complete Dentistry Award, and is currently participating in a SPEAR Dental Institute study group with other dentists in the area. She is an active member of the American Dental Association, the Virginia Dental Association, the Shenandoah Valley Dental Association, the American Association of Women Dentists, and the Delta Sigma Delta Dental Fraternity. She also attends continuing education courses across the country to ensure her skills are cutting-edge.

A Full and Rewarding Personal Life

Dr. Anderson makes her personal and professional home here in Harrisonburg. In her spare time, Dr. Anderson prioritizes her children, but also loves baking cookies, cakes, and experimenting with fancier desserts. She coaches Little League baseball, softball, and recreational soccer, spending extra time with her kids and mentoring children in the community.

Unique to Dr. Anderson, she plays both the guitar and trumpet, practicing both instruments in her spare time. A fun fact about her is that Halloween is her favorite holiday, and she goes all out with an impressive front yard display, complete with a graveyard and other fantastic Halloween decorations.

Breanna Mccafferty

Front Desk Receptionist

Breanna is our friendly receptionist and one of the first smiling faces you'll see when you visit Rocktown Family Dental Care. Her job responsibilities include greeting and welcoming patients, scheduling, rescheduling or canceling patient appointments, and assisting patients with filling out information forms. Her warm demeanor and efficiency help create a welcoming atmosphere for everyone who visits the practice.

Breanna graduated from Broadway High School and has received BLS, CPR, HIPAA, OSHA, and bloodborne pathogen training. She started working in dentistry when she joined our team in 2022.

Her favorite part of her job is meeting new people and being part of a cohesive team. Breanna loves seeing all the wonderful people who visit the practice and their smiling faces. She joined the dental field because she wanted a career change to allow her to spend more time at home with her children.

In her spare time, Breanna enjoys spending time with friends and family, playing with her kids, and spending money. Her unique hobby is going on camping adventures, and a fun fact about her is that she can crochet.

LaQuisha Moore

Dental Assistant

LaQuisha has been dedicated to the dental field since 2015, bringing years of hands-on experience and a strong commitment to patient care.  She earned her Dental Assistant certification from MTC and her Radiograph Certification from VCU in 2014.  She developed a passion for helping patients feel comfortable and confident in their smiles-especially children, whom she truly enjoys working with.   Additionally, she is CPR, BLS, HIPAA, OSHA, and bloodborne pathogen trained and certified ensuring a safe, compliant, and supportive environment for both patients and team members.  She takes pride in creating a welcoming atmosphere while assisting in delivering high quality care.   

LaQuisha's responsibilities include assisting Dr. Anderson, cleaning and prepping rooms, and adhering to infection control and HIPAA protocols. Known for her positivity, LaQuisha is always looking for ways to brighten the days of her team members and patients.

In her spare time, LaQuisha is a proud parent of three children.  She enjoys spending time with her family, attending sporting events, shopping, and staying active outdoors.  Fun Fact:  She loves traveling and trying new foods!

Tiffany Grimes

Lead Dental Assistant

In her role, Tiffany oversees all dental assistants, ensuring that patients receive top-notch care both over the phone and in the office. She handles insurance questions, files claims, and maintains the facilities to the highest standards of cleanliness and sanitation.

Tiffany received her education and training from Dental Discovery School, earning an assisting and radiological certificate. She is also CPR, BLS, HIPAA, OSHA, and bloodborne pathogen trained and certified.

Tiffany has worked in dentistry since 2011 and has been with Dr. Anderson the entire time, beginning at the Harrisonburg Community Health Center. Tiffany loves her job because it allows her to help people become more confident and pain-free. She is passionate about easing dental anxiety and making the patient experience more enjoyable.

Tiffany enjoys spending time with her grandson and watching Golden Girls. Her unique hobby is maintaining her extensive collection of plants at home and at the office.  A fun fact about Tiffany is her love for the musical artist Prince and her enjoyment of making people laugh.

Carolina Castro

Dental Assistant

Carolina just joined Rocktown Family Dental Care as Dr. Anderson’s primary assistant.  She received her Radiology Certification from Northern Virginia Community College.  She is also CPR, BLS, HIPAA, OSHA, and Bloodborne Pathogen trained and Certified.  She is fluent in Spanish and is eager to help patients that require Spanish language interpretation.

Carolina believes everyone’s mouth is very important.  It is the first thing you see when you talk to someone, and she enjoys making sure people have beautiful, healthy mouths.  Carolina is known for her hard work ethic and caring nature.

In her spare time, Carolina enjoys going to the lake and shopping.  She loves to travel and has been to New York, Florida, and Washington DC.  One truly unique hobby of hers is that she loves to draw.  A fun fact about Carolina is she used to be a cheerleader.
